Silicone Solutions for Solar, Grid, and Energy Storage

Energy equipment earns its keep outdoors. Solar arrays, substations, battery systems, wind turbines, and charging stations sit exposed to UV, moisture, and constant thermal cycling for decades, and every seal, coating, and pottant inside them has to last as long as the asset it protects.

Novagard designs and manufactures silicone sealants, coatings, lubricants, and foams in the USA for high performance applications across demanding and fast evolving markets. Our materials provide dielectric insulation, thermal management, and barrier protection against moisture, UV, and vibration, and we can tailor a formulation to the reliability requirements of solar, grid, storage, wind, and EV charging. Backed by one of the largest R&D teams in our class, we help move projects from design to deployment.

Silicones reliably seal, bond, coat, pot, and insulate to protect energy components and systems, such as:

  • Solar panel frames and junction boxes
  • PV cell interconnections and encapsulation
  • High voltage transformers and switchgear
  • Bushings, insulators, and terminations
  • Battery cells, modules, and packs
  • Battery management electronics
  • Inverters, converters, and power electronics
  • Wind turbine nacelle electronics
  • EV charging equipment and connectors
  • Outdoor enclosures and cable entries

Why Silicone for Power Technologies?

Silicone’s silicon-oxygen (Si-O-Si) backbone delivers a rare mix of flexibility, dielectric performance, and environmental durability that makes it foundational across solar, grid infrastructure, and energy storage.

  • Heat and weathering resistance: High siloxane bond energy resists heat, oxidation, UV, and decades of long-term weathering.
  • Flexibility across temperature extremes: Stays elastomeric and compliant, absorbing thermal expansion and contraction of dissimilar materials.
  • Electrical insulation: No mobile charge carriers and a hydrophobic, low-surface-energy surface resist moisture and minimize electrical leakage.
  • Durable environmental protection: Wets surfaces, forms lasting seals, and protects sensitive components under humidity, UV, and contamination.
  • One-platform reliability: Combines electrical reliability, thermal stability, and long service life in a single material for PV modules, battery systems, power electronics, and grid applications.

Applications Across Power Technologies

Solar

Solar modules live outdoors for 25 years or more, and silicone holds them together at every stage of assembly.

Frame Sealing and Junction Box Bonding: 500-100 is a one-part, primerless alkoxy cure sealant for PV frame sealing and junction box bonding, adhering to glass, metals, and plastics while staying flexible through thermal cycling and UV. For high-throughput lines, the two-part 500-PV adds adjustable room-temperature cure times and faster throughput while bonding glass, aluminum, and composites.

Junction Box Potting: 500-620 is a 2K RTV pottant that flows into voids for complete encapsulation and high dielectric protection, with strong adhesion that stabilizes the housing without harming components. 600-269 is an addition cure gel that cures teal to confirm proper mixing and stays flexible where joints are sensitive to adhesive stress. Both deliver watertight, UV-resistant, electronics-grade protection.

Cell Interconnection: Our electrically conductive adhesive replaces solder in module assembly, reducing stress on fragile cells while maintaining consistent electrical performance through thermal cycling.

Grid and High Voltage Power

Transmission and distribution equipment has to insulate reliably at high voltage while standing up to weather and contamination.

Transformers and Switchgears: Silicone coatings and dielectric compounds protect transformers, switchgear, and terminations from moisture, dust, and electrical discharge.

Insulators and Flashover Prevention: Versilube G687 is formulated for high voltage insulators to prevent flashover, maintaining performance from -40°F to 401°F.

Electrical Connections: G661 seals and protects electrical connections above and below ground, and G662 carries NSF Standard 61 certification for drinking water system components.

Battery and Energy Storage

Battery modules and stationary storage systems demand thermal control, electrical isolation, and long service life.

Thermal Management: Thermally conductive compounds G641 and G644 move heat away from cells and power electronics, protecting components from thermal damage.

Enclosure Sealing: Foam Seal PVC foams gasket and insulate battery enclosures, sealing out dust and moisture while cushioning against vibration.

EV Charging

Connectors and Charging Electronics: Charging equipment combines high voltage electronics with outdoor exposure and daily physical handling. Silicone pottants protect charging electronics, and dielectric compounds such as G661 seal cable entries and connector interfaces against water and corrosion.

Wind Power

Nacelle Electronics: Wind turbine nacelles pack sensitive electronics into a structure that vibrates constantly and sits exposed to the elements. Silicone pottants, coatings, and gasketing materials protect nacelle electronic components from moisture and mechanical stress across long maintenance intervals.

Power Electronics and Inverters

Potting and Encapsulation: Inverters and converters manage the flow of power between panels, batteries, and the grid. Flowable encapsulants such as 600-223 600-250, 600-251 & 800-550, UL 746E certified, surround complex circuitry for strain relief and dielectric protection, while G641 and G644 keep power components cool.

Outdoor Protection and Sealing

Weatherproofing: Energy equipment often sits exposed for its entire service life. Sprayable silicone coatings such as 500-210 weatherproof enclosures, liquid applied gasketing and dielectric greases seal connectors against UV, water, and temperature swings.
